WHY EXHIBIT?
Excellent Geographical Location
Located in the south east of the Indochinese
peninsula and physically in South East Asia; straddles two continents namely
Europe-Asia and Oceania vertically, and lies between Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean horizontally.
Favorable location enables Vietnam
to reach active trade centres easier, faster and more conveniently; capitals
such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and Manila as well as Beijing, Hong Kong, Taiwan,
Tokyo, Seoul, Jakarta, New Delhi and
Mumbai can be reached by air from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, within
hours.
Sound Business Environment
Vietnam
is a politically and socially stable country with a high GDP growth rate due to
pragmatic renewal policies. Vietnam
is regarded globally as a safe investment destination.
The Vietnam
government has stepped up efforts to develop private enterprises and speed up
equitisation of state enterprise. Private sector is treated importantly as the
driving force of the economy.
International integration has improved significantly as seen by the expanding
markets, developing trade relations with almost all countries in the world,
becoming an important ASEAN member, participating in AFTA and APEC, signing
bilateral and multilateral agreements and finally becoming an official member
WTO in 2007.
Vietnam’s
business environment is growing in transparency and trade barriers have been
removed for effective mobilisation of internal and external resources.
Vietnam has witnessed
positive changes in its legal environment over recent years facilitating
business operations and narrowing the gap between Vietnam and other leading Asia
Pacific economies.
Government administrative procedures have seen major improvements in areas such
as enterprise establishment, investment licence granting, tax registration and
settlement, legal dispute settlement, employment, etc., promoting and
facilitating investment.
An Abundant Emerging Market
Vietnam’s GDP reached 102
billion USD, export turnover gained 71.6 billion USD and import value reached
84 billion USD in 2010, making Vietnam
a promising market for high-technology equipment, products and services.
With an average GDP growth rate of 7% per year in the period 2006-2010, Vietnam
ranks as the second among Asian countries with high GDP growth rate.
By joining the WTO, Vietnamese businesses have gained opportunities to
integrate into the global market. Growth will remain strong over the forecast
period as industry value soars to US$16.8bn by 2014 on the back of increasing
foreign investment.
The outlook is strengthening for the country's infrastructure sector. New PPP
regulations offer the potential to revolutionise project financing in the
country. Significant changes have been made to property investment laws, and
certain ownership concessions offered to Vietnamese citizens living abroad.
This could well suggest that the government is moving to relax property investment
laws.
Strong efforts are being made to attract investment from multi-national
corporations, especially those from the USA, EU, and Japan by implementing big
high-technology projects aiming at exporting, and creating good conditions for
building centres for research and labour force training.
Vietnam
continues to be a potential market especially for services, construction
materials, industrial machineries, wood materials as well as a wide range of
other goods and services in the years to come.
An import surge in the coming years will become evident due to Vietnam’s
AFTA and WTO commitments to lift tariff barriers for imported products.
With a large population of 86.93 million people (in 2010 and ranking 14th in
the world) with high rural to urban migration, average population density is
263 persons per square kilometres, 5 times higher than that in the world (47
persons per square kilometres) making Vietnam an increasingly large-scale
market.
Vietnam’s
workforce is characterised as being young, highly disciplined, hard-working,
quick in learning, adaptable, committed to work giving it competitive advantage
over other nations. Employment-related disputes hardly occur in Vietnam.
Emergence of high-income class due to economic development along with large
young population, upgrading of infrastructure and robust development of tourism
industry are engines boosting consumer spending especially in housing/real
estate and luxuries.
Economic expansion and growing population are fuelling the demand for property
in the city. The total amount of people living in Vietnam's urban areas is projected
to exceed 30.4 million beyond 2010. Rising tourist numbers have also increased
the demand for accommodation. The World Travel and Tourism Council predict that
Vietnam
will be among the top ten tourist destinations in the world in the next ten
years.
