1理化性质白色结晶性粉末。加热变黄，冷后变白。无气味。熔点655℃。沸点1425℃。高真空时加热至400℃能升华。溶于氢氧化钠溶液、热酒石酸溶液、酒石酸氢盐溶液和硫化钠溶液，微溶于水、稀硝酸和稀硫酸。相对密度5.67。半数致死量(大鼠，经口)>20G/kG。有致癌可能性。

三氧化二锑是应用最早的阻燃剂，适用于环氧树脂、聚氨酯、氯丁橡胶、聚苯乙烯、聚氯乙稀、聚酯等，单独使用时用量要大，阻燃效果差（除非阻燃物含卤），当与卤素化物（R.HX）并用时则有良好的协同效应，阻燃效果明显提高。
