岩棉：英文（rock wool）
一种由天然岩石、矿石为原料，经由高温、高压制成的纤维状再生矿物组织。因形态酷似“棉”，故称“岩棉”。为工业常用保温材料。
用途
岩棉、矿棉可制成条、带、绳、毡、毯、席、垫、管、板状。用于单晶炉、冶金铸造、石油裂化及空间技术耐烧蚀、耐高温隔热材料；建筑和设备的吸声材料、隔热材料；以及天然石棉代用品作水泥制品、橡胶增强材料及高温密封材料、高温过滤材料和高温催化剂载体等。
性能
1．绝热性能：绝热性能好是岩棉、矿渣棉制品的基本特性，在常温条件下（25℃左右）它们的热导率通常在0.03～0.047W/(moK)之间。
2．燃烧性能：岩棉、矿渣棉制品的燃烧性能取决于其中可燃性粘接剂的多少。岩棉、矿渣棉本身属无机质硅酸盐纤维，不可燃，在加工成制品的过程中，有时要加入有机粘结剂或添加物，这些对制品的燃烧性能会产生一定的影响。
3．隔音性能：岩棉、矿渣棉制品具有优良的隔音和吸声性能，其吸声机理是这种制品具有多孔性结构，当声波通过时，由于流阻的作用产生摩擦，使声能的一部分为纤维所吸收，阻碍了声波的传递。
