活塞杆是气缸中最重要的受力零件。通常使用高碳钢、表面经镀硬铬处理、或使用不锈钢、以防腐蚀，并提高密封圈的耐磨性。
5）密封圈

气动优点
1、气动装置结构简单、轻便、安装维护简单。介质为空气，较之液压介质来说不易燃烧，故使用安全。
2、工作介质是取之不尽的空气、空气本身不花钱。排气处理简单，不污染环境，成本低。
3、输出力以及工作速度的调节非常容易。气缸的动作速度一般小于1M/S，比液压和电气方式的动作速度快。
4、可靠性高，使用寿命长。电器元件的有效动作次数约为百万次，而一般电磁阀的寿命大于3000万次，某些质量好的阀超过2亿次。
5、利用空气的压缩性，可贮存能量，实现集中供气。可短时间释放能量，以获得间歇运动中的高速响应。可实现缓冲。对冲击负载和过负载有较强的适应能力。在一定条件下，可使气动装置有自保持能力。
6、全气动控制具有防火、防爆、防潮的能力。与液压方式相比，气动方式可在高温场合使用。
7.压缩空气可集中供应，远距离输送。

气缸根据工作所需力的大小来确定活塞杆上的推力和拉力。由此来选择气缸时应使气缸的输出力稍有余量。若缸径选小了，输出力不够，气缸不能正常工作；但缸径过大，不仅使设备笨重、成本高，同时耗气量增大，造成能源浪费。在夹具设计时，应尽量采用增力机构，以减少气缸的尺寸。

二位五通电磁阀是用来控制流体的自动化基础元件，属于执行器；并不限于液压，气动。电磁阀用于控制液压流动方向，工厂的机械装置一般都由液压缸控制，所以就会用到电磁阀。 电磁阀的工作原理，电磁阀里有密闭的腔，在的不同位置开有通孔，每个孔都通向不同的油管，腔中间是阀，两面是两块电磁铁，哪面的磁铁线圈通电阀体就会被吸引到哪边，通过控制阀体的移动来档住或漏出不同的排油的孔，而进油孔是常开的，液压油就会进入不同的排油管，然后通过油的压力来推动油缸的活塞，活塞又带动活塞杆，活塞杆带动机械装置运动。这样通过控制电磁铁的电流就控制了机械运动。
