PTFE密度较大,为2. 14一2. 20g/cm3,几乎不吸水,平衡吸水率小于0. 01%。
聚四氟乙烯是典型的软而弱聚合物,大分子间的相互引力较小,刚度、硬度、强度都较小,在应力长期作用下会变形。
聚四氟乙烯受载时容易出现蠕变现象,是典型的具有冷流性的塑料。PTFE的蠕变随压缩应力、温度和结晶度的不同而异,温度越高则蠕变越大。PTFE的结晶度在55%一80%之间,蠕变量不超过2%;当结晶度在55%以下和80%以上时,蠕变量迅速增大。
聚四氟乙烯力学性能方面优异的特性是摩擦因数小,在0. 01一0. 10之间,在现有塑料材料,乃至所有工程材料中最小。
PTFE的摩擦因数随滑动速率的增大而增大,当线速度达到0. 5一1. 0m/s以上时趋于稳定;而且静摩擦因数小于动摩擦因数,将这种特性用于轴承制造,可减小其起动阻力,使之从起动到运转都十分平稳。PTFE的摩擦因数随随载荷增加而减小,当载荷达到0. 8 MPa以上时趋于恒定。在高速、高载荷下,PTFE的摩擦因数低于0. 01。从超低温到PTFE熔点.
