将导体断面积100平方毫米以下之试料在本机内冷却1小时后，立即以均匀之速度绕卷于规定直径之圆杆上，断面积100平方毫米以上之试料，则先行绕卷，再冷却相同之时间后，立即以及反方向绕卷于圆杆上，取出试料检视表面是否产生龟裂、裂痕。
