以太网的工作方式是指数据从发送到到达目的地这一过程的运行规则。Ovation系
统目前采用的以太网规则为当前普遍采用的IEEE802.3协议所采用的CDMA/CD(Carrier
Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection，带冲突检测的载波监听多路访
问)机制，从而避免可能发生的冲突。以太网的这种CSMA/CD机制是一种“先监听后发
送”的访问方式。
当一个工作战有数据要发送时，首先监听信道是否忙，如果忙则工作站将等待并继
续监听，一旦信道有空则发送数据。如果有二台以上工作站要同时发送数据，则会导
致冲突发生，当冲突发生时，发送方能通过检测回复信号判断冲突，系统将采取延迟
工作方式，每个工作站都等待下一次的发送时间，重新发送数据。因而这样的网络通
讯方式中信息的吞吐量是随着通讯流量的增长而降低。
