1.1 GLOSSARY OF TERMS

2 INTRODUCTION

This document details the method for updating the GSS6300 or GSS6700 Feature set. This is achieved by sending the target unit a new Feature-Key over its standard interface; this key is then interpreted by the unit and allows new features to be accessed.

3 LOADING IN A NEW FEATURE-KEY

Your new Feature-Key will be provided for you by Spirent Communications, this may be in a text file available via SFTP or in an Email. This Feature-Key will work only on the target unit & will provide the set of Features purchased for the target unit. New Features include constellation availability such as GPS L1, GLONASS L1 & Galileo E1; please speak with a Spirent Communications representative to get a full list of Features available for a product.

3.1 PREPARATION

Before entering a Feature-Key the following requirements must be met:

• Unit connected to a Control PC with Control Software (either USB String Send, IEEE String Send or and RS-232 Terminal Emulator)

• Unit must have a Firmware & FPGA Version that supports the Required Feature (this information should be provided to you along with your Feature-Key)

• Verify the starting features of your unit using the steps in section

3.2 ENTERING THE FEATURE-KEY

From within the control software send the Feature-Key supplied by Spirent Comminications to the target unit using the FEAT command. This should be in the format of FEAT followed by 6 sets of 4 digit hexadecimal numbers; these can be copy & pasted into the control software. You should see a response from the unit stating that the Feature-Key has been accepted, so use the Query methods in USB or IEEE String Send when sending the command.

3.3 CHECKING FEATURES OF A UNIT

The Features of a unit can be checked with the ICFG Query, to check the Constellations a box is capable of, send the following query
