中国中车压缩机公司隶属于国资委下属公司中国中车北京南口机械有限公司（简称：南口公司），由著名铁路工程师詹天佑先生于1906年创建，是国内领先、国际一流的中国北车机械传动装置集成系统、铁路道岔集成系统、压缩风源集成系统（各种规格型号的螺杆机、离心机及空气净化设备）三个专业化研发生产基地。

1906年 南口机械的前身，京张铁路维修基地成立，詹天佑先生首任厂长

1966年 第一台自主研发的活塞式机车压缩机装机，运行成功

1996年 与世界轴承制造企业SKF合资成立北京南口斯凯孚铁路轴承有限公司，引进先进的轴承制造技术

2002年 成功研制出铁路机车用螺杆压缩机

2004年 与美国英格索兰公司合作，生产螺杆转子，并于同年研制生产出SLK系列螺杆压缩机

2006年 与德国克诺尔合资，成功引进压缩机先进的制造技术

2007年 自主研发的第一个型号螺杆主机NSG178实现批量生产，能效达到国家标准化二级以上。同时自主生产的空气压缩机整机在集团公司各生产基地试运行

2008年 公司再接再厉，成功实现了新型螺杆主机NSG242D、NSG242S、NSG242DZ和NSG195等机型的相继研发与投产，填补了国内40m³以上自主研发螺杆主机的空白

2009年 作为北车集团的一员成功上市；为国内多家空压机厂家贴牌生产空气压缩机

2013年 为了响应我国一带一路的大构思，北车人正式将真正意义上民族品牌空压机推向市场化。

2015年 为推动中国高端装备制造进一步走向和加速转型，中国北车与南车进行合并，6月合并换股完成后正式挂牌更名为中国中车（英文缩写CRRC），我公司更名为中国中车北京南口机械有限公司。
