聚酰胺俗称尼龙(Nylon)，英文名称Polyamide ，它是大分子主链重复单元中含有酰胺基团的高聚物的总称。聚酰胺可由内酸胺开环聚合制得，也可由二元胺与二元酸缩聚等得到的。聚酰胺(PA)是指主链节含有极性酰胺基团(-CO-NH一)的高聚物。最初用作制造纤维的原料，后来由于PA具有强韧、耐磨、自润滑、使用温度范围宽成为目前工业中应用广泛的一种工程塑料。PA广泛用来代替铜、有色金属制作机械、化工、电器零件，如柴油发动机燃油泵齿轮、水泵、高压密封圈、输油管等。 [1] 是美国DuPont公司最先开发用于纤维的树脂，于1939年实现工业化。20世纪50年代开始开发和生产注塑制品，以取代金属满足下游工业制品轻量化、降低成本的要求。PA具有良好的综合性能，包括力学性能、耐热性、耐磨损性、耐化学药品性和自润滑性，且摩擦系数低，有一定的阻燃性，易于加工，适于用玻璃纤维和其它填料填充增强改性，提高性能和扩大应用范围。PA的品种繁多，有PA6、PA66、PA11、PA12、PA46、PA610、PA612、PAl010等，以及近几年开发的半芳香族尼龙PA6T和特种尼龙等新品种。
尼龙主要特点如下：
1．优良的力学性能。尼龙的机械强度高，韧性好。
2．自润性、耐摩擦性好。尼龙具有很好的自润性，摩擦系数小，从而，作为传动部件其使用寿命长。
3.优良的耐热性。如尼龙46等高结晶性尼龙的热变形温度很高，可在150℃下长期期使用。PA66经过
玻璃纤维增强以后，其热变形温度达到250℃以上。
4.优异的电绝缘性能。尼龙的体积电阻很高，耐击穿电压高，是优良的电气、电器绝缘材料。
5.优良的耐气候性。
6.吸水性。尼龙吸水性大，饱和水可达到3%以上。在一定程度影响制件的尺寸稳定性。
尼龙主要应用如下：
伴随石油化学工业和其他工业的发展，为尼龙工程塑料的发展，提供了丰富、价廉的原料和广阔的市场。
尼龙主要用于汽车工业、电气电子工业、交通运输业、机械制造工业、电线电缆通讯业、薄膜及日常用品。
用于汽车工业的尼龙约占尼龙总消费量的1/3。主要是利用尼龙树腊密度小和优是的综合性能，以适应汽
车轻量节能的要求。特别是利用它的机械强度较好、耐磨、耐油、自润滑等特点，制造各种轴承、齿轮、
滑轮、输油管、储油器、耐油垫片，保护罩、支撑架、车轮罩盖、导流板、风扇、空气过滤器外壳、散热
器水室、制动管、发动机罩、车门把手等。
