同步型交流伺服电动机虽较感应电动机复杂,但比直流电动机简单。它的定子与感应电动机一样,都在定子上装有对称三相绕组。而转子却不同,按不同的转子结构又分电磁式及非电磁式两大类。非电磁式又分为磁滞式、永磁式和反应式多种。其中磁滞式和反应式同步电动机存在效率低、功率因数较差、制造容量不大等缺点。数控机床中多用永磁式同步电动机。与电磁式相比,永磁式优点是结构简单、运行可靠、效率较高;缺点是体积大、启动特性欠佳。但永磁式同步电动机采用高剩磁感应,高矫顽力的稀土类磁铁后,可比直流电动外形尺寸约小1/2,质量减轻60﹪,转子惯量减到直流电动机的1/5。它与异步电动机相比,由于采用了永磁铁励磁,消除了励磁损耗及有关的杂散损耗,所以效率高。又因为没有电磁式同步电动机所需的集电环和电刷等,其机械可靠性与感应(异步)电动机相同,而功率因数却大大高于异步电动机,从而使永磁同步电动机的体积比异步电动机小些。这是因为在低速时,感应(异步)电动机由于功率因数低,输出同样的有功功率时,它的视在功率却要大得多,而电动机主要尺寸是据视在功率而定的。
在控制策略上,基于电机稳态数学模型的电压频率控制方法和开环磁通轨迹控制方法都难以达到良好的伺服特性,当前普遍应用的是基于永磁电机动态解耦数学模型的矢量控制方法,这是现代伺服系统的核心控制方法。虽然人们为了进一步提高控制特性和稳定性,提出了反馈线性化控制、滑模变结构控制、自适应控制等理论,还有不依赖数学模型的模糊控制和神经元网络控制方法,但是大多在矢量控制的基础上附加应用这些控制方法。还有,高性能伺服控制必须依赖高精度的转子位置反馈,人们一直希望取消这个环节,发展了无位置传感器技术(Sensorless Control)。至今,在商品化的产品中,采用无位置传感器技术只能达到大约1:100的调速比,可以用在一些低档的对位置和速度精度要求不高的伺服控制场合中,比如单纯追求快速起停和制动的缝纫机伺服控制,这个技术的高性能化还有很长的路要走。
伺服电机编码器是安装在伺服电机上用来测量磁极位置和伺服电机转角及转速的一种传感器,从物理介质的不同来分,伺服电机编码器可以分为光电编码器和磁电编码器,另外旋转变压器也算一种特殊的伺服编码器,市场上使用的基本上是光电编码器,不过磁电编码器作为后起之秀,有可靠,价格便宜,抗污染等特点,有赶超光电编码器的趋势。

伺服电机可以理解为服从控制信号指挥的电机:在控制信号发出之前,转子静止不动;当控制信号发出时,转子立即转动;当控制信号消失时,转子能即时停转。伺服电机是自动控制装置中被用作执行元件的微特电机,其功能是将电信号转换成转轴的角位移或角速度。
机器人用伺服电机要求控制器与伺服之间的总线通讯速度快;伺服的精度高;另外对基础材料有加工要求。特别是像机器人末端执行器(手爪)应采用体积、质量尽可能小的电机,尤其是要求快速响应时,伺服电动机必须具有较高的可靠性和稳定性,能经受得起苛刻的运行条件,可进行十分频繁的正反向和加减速运行,并能在短时间内承受过载。
伺服电机分为交流伺服和直流伺服两大类,交流伺服电机的基本构造与交流感应电动机(异步电机)相似。在定子上有两个相空间位移90°电角度的励磁绕组Wf和控制绕组WcoWf,接恒定交流电压,利用施加到Wc上的交流电压或相位的变化,达到控制电机运行的目的。交流伺服电机具有运行稳定、可控性好、响应快速、灵敏度高以及机械特性和调节特性的非线性度指标严格(要求分别小于10%~15%和小于15%~25%)等特点。
直流伺服电机基本构造与一般直流电动机相似。电机转速n=E/K1j=(Ua-IaRa)/K1j,式中E为电枢反电动势,K为常数,j为每极磁通,Ua、Ia为电枢电压和电枢电流,Ra为电枢电阻,改变Ua或改变φ,均可控制直流伺服电动机的转速,但一般采用控制电枢电压的方法,在永磁式直流伺服电动机中,励磁绕组被磁铁所取代,磁通φ恒定。直流伺服电动机具有良好的线性调节特性及快速的时间响应。
工业机器人的控制系统和自动化产品主要涉及伺服电机、减速机、控制器和传感器等。伺服电机是工业机器人的动力系统。
目前,机器人的关节驱动离不开伺服系统,关节越多,机器人的柔性和度越高,所要使用的伺服电机的数量就越多。机器人对伺服系统的要求较高,必须满足快速响应、高起动转矩、动转矩惯量比大、调速范围宽,要适应机器人的形体做到体积小、重量轻、加减速运行等条件,且需要高可靠性和稳定性。目前,工业机器人使用的较多的是交流伺服系统。
